Understanding the calculator collection
The general calculator cluster covers over 700 tools spanning math, science, engineering, construction, real estate, cooking, sports, statistics, and everyday utility. Every calculator uses the standard formula for its domain, drawn from primary authoritative sources: NIST for SI unit definitions and physical constants, IUPAC for chemistry, IEEE and ISO for engineering standards, USDA for nutrition, ANSI for construction codes, and peer-reviewed textbook derivations where the calculation is mathematical rather than regulatory.
The cluster is organised into eleven top-level categories. Math covers fractions, percentages, algebra, geometry, and calculus. Science covers physics, chemistry, biology, and earth science. Statistics handles standard deviation, sample size, hypothesis testing, and probability. Construction covers concrete, sod, mulch, beam calculations, and material quantity estimation. Real Estate covers property taxes, rental income, cap rate, ROI on renovations, and mortgage-adjacent tools. Automotive covers loan payments, affordability, depreciation, fuel economy, and lease calculations. Cooking handles recipe scaling, ingredient substitutions, meal planning, and nutrition. Sports & Fitness covers heart rate, race times, VO2 max, swimming pace, and cycling power. Education covers GPA, grade calculation, test scoring, and study planning. Other tools handle date arithmetic, unit conversion, formatting, and cross-domain utility calculations.
Every calculator page cites the formula it uses and links to the authoritative source. Where multiple formulas exist for the same concept (four separate ideal-weight formulas, three separate BSA formulas, various compound-interest conventions), the calculator returns all validated variants so you can see the range and choose the one your specific application requires. Where a formula was empirically calibrated on a specific population, the calibration population is documented — a formula validated on adult male military recruits will not necessarily apply cleanly to adolescent females or elderly patients, and we say so.
The formulas underlying these calculators are not proprietary. They come from federal regulations, published research, industry standards, and textbook derivations that anyone with the source can verify. Our role is presenting them in a consistent, browsable, no-signup, no-tracking interface that respects your time and your data.
