Sports Calculators

Performance, training, and scoring calculators across running, cycling, weightlifting, golf, and more.

About sports calculators

Sports calculators cover performance metrics and training analytics across major sports. Running tools include pace calculators (min/mile, min/km, or per-lap), race time predictors (McMillan and Riegel formulas), VDOT training paces (Jack Daniels running formula), and race-specific tools for 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon distances. Cycling tools handle power (watts), gear ratios, speed given cadence and gearing, and route planning with elevation.

Weightlifting calculators include one-rep max (1RM) estimators using Epley, Brzycki, Lombardi, and Wathen formulas — none of which are exact but all reasonable approximations for training program design. Percentage-of-1RM calculators generate warmup and working set weights from a target percentage. Volume-load calculators track total kilograms lifted per session for training log analysis.

Heart rate zone calculators use the Karvonen formula (heart rate reserve method) with 5 zones from active recovery through VO2 max. Alternative percentage-of-max-HR conventions (American Heart Association 3-zone framework, Coggan power-training equivalent) are available where appropriate for the sport. Maximum heart rate estimation defaults to the Tanaka 2001 formula (208 − 0.7 × age) rather than the classic Fox 220 − age, which systematically overestimates HRmax for adults over 40.

Golf tools include handicap calculators (USGA/R&A World Handicap System), score-to-par tables, driving distance from clubhead speed, and pace-of-play estimation. Swimming tools include Critical Swim Speed (CSS) pace, stroke count analysis, and event conversion.

These calculators are used by recreational athletes for training planning and race preparation, coaches for athlete assessment and program design, and sports scientists for reference calculations. For competitive athletes or those with cardiovascular conditions, work with a coach and cardiologist rather than relying solely on formula outputs.
