About ScoutMyTool
Editorial mission, standards, and team
Our mission
ScoutMyTool exists to make the internet's most-searched everyday tools fast, honest, and free. When you need a mortgage EMI, a body-mass index, a merged PDF, or a rental agreement, you should be able to open a page, get the answer in under 30 seconds, and close the tab — without signups, paywalls, email gates, cookie mazes, or trial subscriptions that quietly convert to charges. The web used to work this way; we are attempting to keep a small corner of it that still does.
We publish approximately 1,570 free tools across ten clusters: finance calculators (99 tools including mortgage, retirement, EMI, tax bracket, and 19 India-specific calculators), health calculators (BMI, calorie, BMR, body fat, blood pressure), PDF tools (merge, split, compress, convert — all in your browser, files never leave your device), document templates (NDAs, contracts, invoices, rental agreements), unit converters, currency, developer utilities, word games, fullscreen utilities, and image tools. Alongside the tools we publish long-form editorial guides on personal finance, PDF workflows, and tool comparisons.
Editorial standards
Every calculator, converter, and template on ScoutMyTool is built to three standards. First, the formula or approach must be sourced from a primary authoritative reference — not a second-hand blog post. Second, the result must be cross-checked against at least one widely-recognized reference implementation before publication. Third, every non-obvious input must have a short explanation (a "why this matters" tooltip) so users understand what they are entering, not just where to type.
For financial calculators we cite: Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Ministry of Finance, IRDAI, PFRDA, SEBI, Income Tax Department, CBDT circulars, and bank-published rate cards. For US financial tools we cite: IRS revenue procedures, CFPB regulations, Federal Reserve H.15 release, SEC Investor.gov, and Bureau of Labor Statistics. For health tools we cite WHO Technical Report Series, CDC growth charts, American Heart Association / American College of Cardiology guidelines, and peer-reviewed medical literature. For PDF tools we cite ISO 32000-2:2020 (the PDF standard) and use open-source libraries with public audit trails (pdf-lib, pdfplumber, qpdf, Ghostscript).
Our full editorial process is documented at Editorial methodology — including which authorities we cite by domain, how we handle formula updates when governments revise rates or standards, and what we deliberately do NOT build.
Corrections policy
When we get something wrong — a formula, a rate, a citation, a translation of a legal provision — we correct it immediately. Here is our commitment:
- All corrections are made within 7 days of a verified report, most within 24 hours.
- Every fixed tool page carries a "Last reviewed" date footer that updates when substantive changes ship.
- Material corrections that affect prior computed results are called out in a short note at the top of the affected tool for at least 30 days.
- Report an error at any time via contact@scoutmytool.com — please include the URL, the input values you used, the incorrect output, and the reference you believe is correct.
We take reader-reported errors seriously because we are aware every incorrect calculator output propagates further than a corrected one ever will. If our EMI number is wrong, someone might make a five-lakh borrowing decision on it. That is a burden of care we take seriously.
Editorial team
ScoutMyTool is built by a small editorial team of software engineers and financial writers with backgrounds in enterprise fintech, tax consulting, and PDF/document technology. We work as a collective — no individual byline on tool pages — because tools are collaborative products: someone writes the formula, someone verifies against the authority source, someone reviews the on-page prose, someone tests the calculator against edge cases, someone maintains it as regulations change. The credit belongs to the process, not any single hand.
Article-level bylines credit "ScoutMyTool Editorial Team" for the same reason. The team's public accountability contact is contact@scoutmytool.com — emails to that address are read within 3 business days and substantive queries answered within 7 days. We do not use ticket systems or auto-responders; every reply is a human.
How we make money
ScoutMyTool is funded by two revenue streams:
- Display advertising via Google AdSense (pending approval as of publication; inventory reserved via
<ins>placeholders in-page). Ads are labelled clearly, never mixed with editorial content, and never influence which tools we build or how we compute a result. - Affiliate revenue via Amazon Associates. Our topic-relevant book and product recommendations (in the Amazon block on select tool pages) may earn commission on qualifying purchases. Recommendations are chosen editorially by our team based on topical relevance — not on commission rate. Every affiliate link is disclosed as such with a small "AMAZON AFFILIATE" badge and the required FTC disclosure sentence.
We do NOT and will NOT: (a) sell your personal data — we do not collect any (see our Privacy Policy), (b) put tools behind a paywall, (c) run sponsored calculator results (a lender paying us to nudge borrowers toward their product), (d) accept payment for editorial coverage, (e) use dark patterns to trap emails or trial subscriptions. If ad revenue ever stops being enough to keep the site running, we will tell you on the home page rather than quietly putting tools behind a wall.
Privacy commitments
We collect the minimum viable analytics: page views, referrer, and country (via Google Analytics 4). We do NOT collect: personal identifiers, form inputs on any calculator (all calculators run locally in your browser), uploaded PDFs (PDF tools run entirely client-side — files never leave your device), account information (we have no accounts), or contact information beyond emails you voluntarily send us. Full details in our Privacy Policy.
When you use a PDF tool, the file is loaded into a JavaScript memory buffer in your browser tab, processed locally using pdf-lib, and the result is written back as a download. Nothing transmits to our servers. This is verifiable: open your browser's Network tab while using merge-pdf and confirm no file upload requests are made. We designed the tools this way because it is faster (no upload/download round-trip) AND removes an entire category of privacy risk.
What we deliberately do NOT build
We turn away certain categories of tools even when there is search demand for them. This is a deliberate editorial choice to keep the site's trust profile clean:
- YouTube downloaders — violates YouTube ToS and Google's AdSense policy. We publish YouTube-adjacent tools (thumbnail preview, embed generator, tag extractor) that stay on the legal side.
- Copyrighted content scrapers — anything that helps circumvent paywalls, DRM, or license terms.
- Fake document generators — payment receipts, employment letters, or identity documents where the intent is misrepresentation.
- Deep-fake or AI-manipulated image tools — even where legally permitted, the misuse potential is too high.
- Server-side AI-powered features that would require us to send your inputs to third-party LLM providers.
- Grey-area financial tools — payday-loan matchmakers, high-risk cryptocurrency yield calculators, MLM downline projectors.
Some of these draw significant traffic. Building them would grow the site faster. We do not. The tools we do build must be things we'd recommend to a friend without a disclaimer.
What you can do
- Use any tool — no account, no email, no captcha. Bookmark the tools you use often; the URLs stay stable for the life of the tool.
- Embed our calculators on your own site — free, with a small "Powered by ScoutMyTool" backlink. Get embed code at /embed-our-tools.
- Share friendly URLs — we offer cluster subdomains like
pdf.scoutmytool.comandcalc.scoutmytool.comfor social sharing. Details at /branding. - Suggest new tools — email contact@scoutmytool.com with what you wish existed. We add new tools every week and prioritize what real people ask for. If we can build it in a way that fits our editorial standards, it usually ships within 2 weeks of a good suggestion.
- Report errors — see the corrections policy above. Include the URL, inputs, and correct value if you have one.
- Follow the roadmap — new tools land continuously on the home page. Recent additions include our full India personal-finance cluster (PPF, EPF, NPS, HRA, SIP, ELSS, Gold Loan, POMIS) and comprehensive long-form guides.
Independence
ScoutMyTool is self-funded. We have taken no venture capital, no strategic investment from financial-services companies, no corporate sponsorships from banks or lenders. We do not license our editorial content to third parties who could compromise its independence. When our tools recommend one approach over another (prepaying a home loan vs investing; NPS vs PPF; term insurance vs endowment), the recommendation reflects the editorial team's honest analysis — not a commercial relationship.
The site is registered to Vertex Data Systems FZCO (Dubai) as the corporate entity for international operations. All revenue, taxes, and vendor relationships flow through this entity. There are no undisclosed affiliations, no shell companies, no hidden ownership.
Update commitment
Regulatory environments change. Bank rates change quarterly. Tax slabs change annually (or, in the case of India's 2024 capital-gains rewrite, mid-year). Every tool page carries a "Last reviewed" footer date that updates when substantive changes ship. When a government revises a rate we track (PPF quarterly, EPF annually, GST slabs, income tax slabs, LTCG rules), we update the default value + the on-page prose within 14 days of official notification.
Legacy tools that no longer serve a purpose (superseded regulations, deprecated formulas) are archived transparently — we do not silently delete pages. If you land on a redirect from an old URL, the destination page explains what changed and why.
