60 lengths of 25m.
  • Target1500 m
  • Target (meters)1,500.0 m
  • Pool length25 m
  • Lengths needed60.00 (round up: 60)
  • Lap definition1 length = 1 lap
  • Laps (round up)60

Step-by-step

  1. Target in m = 1,500.0.
  2. Lengths = 1,500.0 / 25 = 60.00.
  3. Laps = lengths × lap factor = 60.00, round up = 60.

How to use this calculator

  • Enter target distance + unit.
  • Pick pool length (US YMCAs are usually 25y; competitive 25m or 50m).
  • Pick lap convention.
  • Round up — don't end mid-pool.

About this calculator

A "lap" is ambiguous: in track and most casual swimming, one length = one lap; in lane swimming and competitive contexts, down-and-back = one lap. This calculator handles both. A 1500m target in a 25m pool: 60 lengths or 30 down-and-back laps. In a 25-yard pool: 65.6 lengths → round up to 66. Don't fret partial lengths — round up and finish at the wall.

Frequently asked

In open water, "lap" = one circuit of the buoy course. In pool sprints, "lap" = down-and-back = 50m in a 25m pool.
