About this calculator
When a recipe yields 24 cookies and you need 60 for an event, you can either scale the recipe by 2.5 or run 3 separate batches. Multiple smaller batches usually bake more evenly than one giant batch (oven space, mixer capacity).
Frequently asked
Should I bake one big batch or several small batches?+
For cookies and bread, several small batches almost always — your oven space and mixer capacity dominate. For braises and stews, one big batch is usually fine.
Will my mixer handle a 2.5× cookie dough?+
A 5-quart stand mixer can handle ~2× a typical recipe; a 6-quart can do 2.5-3×. Beyond that, do separate batches.
How do I keep batch 1 dough from drying while batch 2 bakes?+
Cover batch 2 dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate; bring to room temp 15 min before baking.
Can I refrigerate cookie dough overnight?+
Yes — many doughs benefit from a 24-hour rest (better browning, deeper flavor). Some sites swear by it.
Do bigger batches need different bake times?+
Per-cookie bake time stays the same; total project time scales with batch count.
