About this calculator

Eleven US federal holidays. Some are fixed (Christmas, July 4); others are computed by rule (Thanksgiving = 4th Thursday of November, Memorial Day = last Monday of May). Federal employees get all 11 as paid days off; private-sector observance varies.

Frequently asked

How is Thanksgiving computed?+
4th Thursday of November (changed from "last Thursday" by Congress in 1941 because some years have 5 Thursdays).
When are observed dates used?+
When a fixed-date holiday falls on a Saturday, federal observance is the preceding Friday. On Sunday, the following Monday. This calculator shows actual dates, not observed.
Why isn't Easter listed?+
Easter isn't a US federal holiday — it's a religious observance. State/private observance varies.
Is Inauguration Day a holiday?+
Federal holiday only in the DC metro area, every 4 years on January 20. Not in this list.
How accurate is this list?+
Through 2030 with current rules. Rule changes (e.g., adding/removing federal holidays) would require updates.
