About science calculators
The science calculator category covers physics and chemistry formulas taught in high school and introductory university courses. Physics tools handle kinematics (velocity, acceleration, projectile motion), dynamics (Newton's second law, momentum, work, energy), waves and optics (frequency, wavelength, refraction), electricity (Ohm's law, power, capacitance, resistance), and thermodynamics (heat capacity, phase change energies, gas laws). Chemistry tools handle stoichiometry (molar mass, moles, limiting reagent), solutions (molarity, dilution, pH), gas laws (ideal gas equation, partial pressures, Boyle's Law, Charles's Law), and reaction thermochemistry.
Every physics calculator uses SI units by default (metres, kilograms, seconds, kelvin, moles, amperes) with unit conversion available for imperial or CGS conventions where relevant. Fundamental constants come from the CODATA 2018 recommended values: speed of light 299,792,458 m/s exact (defining constant), Planck constant 6.62607015 × 10⁻³⁴ J·s exact (defining constant), elementary charge 1.602176634 × 10⁻¹⁹ C exact, Boltzmann constant 1.380649 × 10⁻²³ J/K exact, and Avogadro number 6.02214076 × 10²³ mol⁻¹ exact (all exact since the 2019 SI redefinition).
Chemistry calculators use IUPAC-recommended atomic weights and IUPAC nomenclature. Molar mass calculations sum standard atomic weights of constituent elements; pH calculations assume 25°C standard conditions with pKw = 14; gas law calculations default to STP (standard temperature and pressure) of 273.15 K and 100 kPa per current IUPAC standard (note that older textbooks use 273.15 K / 101.325 kPa — the calculator supports both and states which convention is applied).
These tools are widely used by students at high school and undergraduate level for homework verification and exam preparation, by teachers building problem sets, and by professionals in engineering, laboratory work, and industrial applications for quick field calculations. Where a computation depends on specific conditions (temperature, pressure, concentration), the calculator surfaces those assumptions in the result so the interpretation is unambiguous.
