How to use this calculator

  • Pick what you want to solve for.
  • Fill in the other two values.
  • Mix km/h and miles freely โ€” units convert internally.

About this calculator

A 100 km ride at 25 km/h takes 4 hours. At 30 km/h, 3:20. At 35 km/h, 2:51. Cyclists rarely hold their FTP-equivalent speed for long rides โ€” wind, climbs, and fatigue cost 10-20%. Use this calculator to plan: enter expected average speed (lower than your training rides!) for time goals, or back-solve average speed needed to hit a finish time on a known route.

Frequently asked

Why is my predicted time longer than my Strava avg?+
Strava average includes all stop time; moving average is lower. For ride planning, use moving average and add 5-15 min for stops.
How does wind affect this?+
A 20 km/h headwind costs ~25% of effort. Tailwind helps less than the headwind hurts (drag is squared).
Climbing time?+
On any climb steeper than 4%, your speed drops dramatically โ€” use a per-segment calculation, not a flat-average estimate.
Difference from running pace calculators?+
Same math, different units. Cyclists think in speed (km/h, mph); runners think in pace (min/km, min/mi).
How do pros plan stage time?+
They use power-based prediction with course profile, not just avg speed. Apps like BestBikeSplit or PerfPro do this.
