How does the Bates Numbering work?
Bates numbering is the legal world's way of uniquely identifying every page produced in discovery — `BATES000001`, `BATES000002`, and so on. Add a prefix (often a party initial like `ABC-` or `SMITH-`), a starting number, and how many digits to pad. Pick where on the page the number appears (corners or centre, top or bottom). The number is drawn in bold Helvetica at 10pt and never overlaps with content if the document was authored with the standard 1" margin. Conversion runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
