About this tool
A baby uses ~2,500 diapers in the first year and roughly 5,500 diapers total before potty-training. At $0.20-$0.40 per diaper, that is $1,100-$2,200 per child. This calculator projects total spend based on daily-usage curve (10/day newborn tapering to 4/day toddler) and the age at which you expect to switch to underwear.
Formula & notes
Newborns need 10-12 diapers/day; by 3 months this drops to ~8/day; by 12 months ~6/day; by 24 months ~4/day until potty-training (typical 24-36 months). The calculator uses this taper curve and multiplies by your per-diaper cost. Shows monthly and cumulative totals. Cloth-diaper savings depend on wash cost; the calculator shows disposables only — cloth users can subtract ~40-60%.
