About this calculator

Macros (protein / carbs / fat) per serving give a more useful nutrition profile than calories alone. Atwater factors: 4 kcal/g for protein and carbs, 9 kcal/g for fat. The macro ratio (protein% / carb% / fat% of kcal) is how diets are categorized: keto runs 5/20/75, balanced 25/45/30, high-protein 35/40/25. Sum honestly — alcohol is 7 kcal/g, glycerol 4.3, but most home cooks can ignore those edge cases.

Frequently asked

Why doesn't my kcal match my macros?+
Most likely fiber (counts as carb but contributes ~2 kcal/g), alcohol (7 kcal/g), or sugar alcohols. Within ±10% is typical.
Do I include fiber in carbs?+
For total carb yes. For "net carbs" (keto): subtract fiber. For most diets, total carbs is the cleaner metric.
What's a healthy macro ratio?+
No single answer. USDA Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Ranges: 10-35% protein, 45-65% carbs, 20-35% fat. Wide ranges by goal.
Cooking oils?+
Pure fat — 9 kcal/g, no protein or carbs. 1 tbsp oil = ~14g = ~120 kcal.
How precise should grams be?+
Within 1g per ingredient is plenty for home cooking. Athletes tracking competitive: 0.1g.
