How does the Redaction Comparison Demo work?

Generate a 2-page teaching demo showing the practical difference between visual redaction (a black rectangle drawn over text — the underlying text remains and is recoverable via copy/paste, programmatic extraction, or any tool that walks the content stream) and permanent redaction (the page is rasterised, so the text becomes pixels and there is no underlying object to extract). Useful for compliance training, security awareness, or convincing a stakeholder to use the right tool. Open the resulting PDF and try selecting + copying the redacted text on page 1 — you will see why visual redaction alone is not safe for adversarial contexts.

Frequently asked

pdf-lib (the in-browser PDF library this tool uses) cannot remove text already on a page; it can only add new content. A real permanent-redaction pipeline rasterises the page through pdfjs first, then redraws as image-only — that's exactly what Permanent Redaction does. The demo can't do that for two synthetic pages without becoming much more complex.
