About this tool

Fixed Deposit is the most popular savings instrument in India โ€” over 80% of urban households hold at least one FD. Banks pay a guaranteed interest rate for a fixed period, with quarterly compounding by default. Interest is fully taxable at your slab rate (TDS deducted if interest exceeds โ‚น40,000/year, or โ‚น50,000 for seniors). The 5-year Tax-Saver FD qualifies for Section 80C deduction (โ‚น1.5L cap) but has strict 5-year lock-in and premature withdrawal penalties. Deposits up to โ‚น5 lakh per bank per customer are insured by DICGC.
