How does Pascal to Torr conversion work?
Type a value in the Pascal (Pa) field and the equivalent in Torr (Torr) appears instantly to the right. The math uses the exact formula shown above โ no rounding errors, no approximations beyond standard floating-point precision. Use the swap button to flip the units and see the inverse conversion.
Pascal. The SI unit of pressure. 1 Pa = 1 newton per square metre. Atmospheric pressure is about 101,325 Pa.
Torr. Defined as exactly 1/760 of a standard atmosphere = 101,325/760 โ 133.322 Pa. Used in vacuum technology + thin-film deposition. Interchangeable with mmHg in clinical contexts.

How it works โ the formula
1 Pa = 1 N/mยฒ = 1 kg/(mยทsยฒ)
1 bar = 100,000 Pa exactly
1 atm (standard atmosphere) = 101,325 Pa exactly
1 psi = 6,894.757293168 Pa
1 mmHg โ 133.322387415 Pa (exact at 0 ยฐC, 9.80665 m/sยฒ)The pascal is the SI derived unit of pressure: force per unit area. The bar (100 kPa) is widely used in engineering and meteorology; the standard atmosphere (101.325 kPa) is fixed by the BIPM and approximates mean sea-level pressure. The pound per square inch (psi) is exactly 6,894.757293168 Pa via the 1959 yard-and-pound definition. Millimetres of mercury (mmHg) and inches of mercury (inHg) survive in medicine and aviation; their definitions are conventional and depend on standard gravity and 0 ยฐC mercury density.
Worked examples
- Inputs:
- 1 atm = ? psi
- Output:
- 101,325 / 6,894.757293168 โ 14.6959 psi
- Inputs:
- 32 psi = ? kPa
- Output:
- 32 ร 6.894757 โ 220.63 kPa
- Inputs:
- 120 mmHg = ? kPa
- Output:
- 120 ร 0.133322 โ 15.999 kPa
Limitations
- "Bar" and "barometric" share a name but bar is a unit while barometric pressure is a measurement context.
- mmHg and torr differ by 0.000015% (torr is 1/760 atm, mmHg is gravity-and-density-defined) โ interchangeable in clinical use.
- Gauge vs absolute pressure differ by 1 atm โ clearly mark which one a converted value represents.
- Pressure changes ~12 hPa per 100 m of altitude near sea level; an altitude-naรฏve conversion can mislead aviation/diving readings.
Conversions are exact rational arithmetic between Pa-defined units; mmHg / inHg use the conventional standard-gravity definition and may differ by ~0.001% from local-gravity-corrected values.
