About this calculator
Quick sales-tax lookup for any US state at the state-level base rate. The actual rate you pay can be higher: most US states allow counties, cities, and special districts to layer additional rates on top — sometimes pushing the combined rate above 10% (Chicago combined ~10.25%, Los Angeles County 10.25% in most cities). This calculator gives the state base rate and lets you optionally type in your local add-on for an exact figure. Five states have no statewide sales tax: Alaska (local-only), Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon. Hawaii's "General Excise Tax" (GET) functions as a sales tax and is grouped here.
