How does the OCR PDF (Make Searchable) work?

When a PDF is a scan — pages are images, not text — you can't search, copy, or extract anything from it. OCR (Optical Character Recognition) fixes that by analysing each page image, recognising the characters, and adding an invisible searchable text layer on top. The page looks identical to the original; the difference is that select-and-copy now works, and tools downstream (PDF to Word, PDF to CSV, search engines) treat it as a normal text PDF. We use OCRmyPDF — the same open-source pipeline that runs behind paid services — with automatic page rotation and deskew enabled. Files are processed and deleted right after you download.

🔒 Security & Privacy

Files are encrypted in transit and processed on a secure server. Your file is automatically deleted right after you download — we never store your documents.

A single-page PDF: a few seconds. A 50-page document: a minute or two. Scaling is roughly linear with page count.
