About this tool

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is the Government of India's flagship savings scheme for the girl child, launched in 2015 under the "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" campaign. Account can only be opened for a girl aged 0-10 years, with maximum 2 accounts per family (3 if second birth is twin girls). Deposits continue for 15 years, and the account matures 21 years from opening (or on marriage after age 18). Interest rate is the HIGHEST among government small savings schemes — currently 8.2% p.a. — and the scheme has triple tax exemption (EEE): deposits qualify for Section 80C, interest is tax-free, maturity is tax-free.
